Got questions?

Well, we’ve got answers. Whether you’ve always wondered what “biltong” actually means, or you’re itching to learn about pork scratchings, our FAQs are here to help.

It's delicious. Ok, you want the technical stuff: biltong is an all natural process of preserving meat that originated in South Africa. The word 'biltong' comes from the Dutch words 'bil', meaning rump or hindquarter, and 'tong', meaning 'strip'. Indigenous peoples such as the Khoikhoi found that slicing meat into strips, curing it with salt and hanging it up to dry was an effective way of preserving it. European settlers evolved the method and added vinegar and spices to make sure the meat retained its full flavour, tenderness and nutritional qualities.

Biltong is an extremely healthy choice of meat that will help maintain a good diet and improve eating habits. It's natural, high in protein, low in carbs, and contains many vitamins and minerals that support your circulatory and nervous systems.

That's a big yes. Biltong is low in fat and carbohydrates, while high in protein and packed with all sorts of essential vitamins and minerals.

It's the finest silverside beef, all the way.

We only use top notch grass fed beef from carefully vetted suppliers we know and trust.

Jerky has been around of hundreds of years, tracing a line back to Native Americans in the 1500s. It's a method for preserving meat that involves drying and salting it at low temperatures. We create our jerky using the finest topside beef, marinated in our unique herb and spice blend.

Pork scratchings are crispy pork rinds made by slicing pig skin and deep frying it in lard. Legend tells that they originated in the West Midlands or Black Country where they were (and still are) regularly consumed with a pint of Banks's beer. They likely date back to the 1800s, when families kept their own pigs; as food was scarce and nothing went to waste, even the fat and skin off-cuts were fried and eaten.

Pork scratchings are high protein, high fat and essentially carb-free. This makes them perfect for keto and low-carb diets - giving your body fuel without the insulin spikes of sugar. Although the fat content is high, two-thirds of it is made up of mono and polyunsaturated fats, which are beneficial to heart health. One of the monounsaturated fats they contain a lot of is Oleic Acid, which actually stops the production of cholesterol receptors, making it harder for the body to absorb dietary cholesterol. Oleic Acid can also help reduce oxidative damage in cell membranes caused by free radicals.

Our Pork Crunch is a lighter version of a traditional pork scratching. Pork Crunch is made from the rind of the pig, which puffs up when fried. Delicious.
